Talking about cleaning the children’s toilets: – Too bad we didn’t get to buy popcorn for today

You open the door and are greeted by the stench of urine.

The Nullermen dance in the corners.

And the toilet doesn’t seem really clean.

Maybe you turn around at the door.

Holds you until you get home.

In any case, this is the model that several schoolchildren have chosen – with a stomach ache as a consequence. A school board chairman told Nordjuyske last year.

Because cases of inadequate cleaning at schools and stressed employees appear again and again after the municipality outsourced the task to save money.

Bullshit and rematch

At first there were two private companies for the task, but one went bankrupt and since then Kongsvang Cleaning & Facility A/S has been responsible for everything.

Nordjyske was able to reveal here that several of their employees were sick. For example, Ane Marie Mikkelsen after she had a blackout, fell over, broke her collarbone and got a gash on her forehead.

Despite that, the politicians in Jammerbugt Municipality agreed in the autumn to put the task out to tender again – but major mistakes sent it into a rematch.

Now the result has finally arrived, and two suppliers have bid for the task.

But the politicians were far from agreed on what should happen next.

Dirty school toilets

At the local council meeting on Wednesday evening, the matter was debated – and there was talk of somewhat bigger words than usual.

– It cuts my heart when I hear stories about children who don’t want to go to the toilet at their local school because the toilets are so dirty, said Kjeld Hedegård Nielsen of the Danish Democrats.

He voted against – but also because of the process itself.

– We hired an expert who could not deliver the goods. Then we hire a specialist to keep an eye on the expert. Excuse me, I think that money could have been spent on civic welfare.

– Half as much fun, twice as expensive

While mayor Mogens Christen Gade (V) could not count on the Social Democrats this time, he received support from the opposition.

– We don’t buy a case of beer in Rema for 100 kroner if we can get it for 90 in Brugsen. The public sector has never been able to get anything going.

– The public sector, it’s like taking your wife into town. It’s half as much fun and twice as expensive, said independent John Bjerg, before feeling the need to say that he wouldn’t have voted “if it had been the Pakistanis…”

That remark got Kiki Bille Bach (S) out of her chair.

– In that way, to stigmatize a social group, I actually do not think that we can be familiar in this room. And I also don’t think this is the space where we should have a discussion about whether it should be public or private, because that’s not what it’s about, she said.

– It is about the fact that there is a group of employees for whom we have a different solution on how to ensure a working environment for them, where you have a different opinion, and I think that there should be respect and room for that.

Mogens vs. Kiki

And while agreement on the matter was not easy to achieve, Kiki did hope to agree with the others on one thing:

– Even if we disagree, let’s agree that we speak properly and nicely to each other and about other people, she urged.

– In any case, it is a good point, but I also think that it is over the line to say that we are not concerned about the working environment, said speaker and mayor Mogens Christen Gade (V), before he was interrupted from the floor by Kiki:

– That’s not what I said either.

– Yes, you said that, Mogens acknowledged.

– No.

– Jov.

– No.

– Well, you did then…

– I said we will solve it differently. That’s actually what I said, it sounded from Kiki, as the mayor continued to speak.

However, several felt the need to speak directly to the loner after his speech about beer, dinners with the wife and Pakistanis.

– Damn it, John, can’t you hear that when everything has to be outsourced, we have to have an expert in tendering and then we have to have a tendering lawyer who has to be the controller, and there must be this, and there must be that. It has to make sense, but we just can’t see that it makes sense here, said group chairman Diane Aarestrup (S).

Misogynistic comments

Ulla Flintholm (V) also had something to say to John Bjerg:

– It may well be that your wife thinks it’s funny, but here in the municipal council we don’t sit and say such derogatory comments to women, thank you.

The debate, on the other hand, brought a smile to the face of the Conservatives, who for a rare occasion were on the same team as the mayor.

– In my world, this is a budget issue, and that is why we are also sitting over here and are a little upset that we didn’t get to buy popcorn for today, because suddenly there is fire and flames in the budget settlement parties, said Jørgen Ravn (K).

17 politicians from Venstre, the Danish People’s Party, the Conservative People’s Party, the Lokallist and the independent John Bjerg voted in favor, while eight Social Democrats, and one man from the Socialist People’s Party and two from the Danish Democrats were against.

Before the contract with the new cleaning supplier can be signed, ten working days must pass in a so-called stand still period. It was during this period that the major errors in the supply were discovered last.

The municipality expects that, by letting a private company solve the task, they will save taxpayers ten million kroner over four years – a figure the Social Democratic Party, however, was surprised by.
