Tasiast celebrates the 38th International Women’s Day

Nouakchott, March 10, 2023. Once again this year, Kinross Tasiast wanted to put women in the spotlight by offering them, from March 7 to 9, a program of very rich and emotional activities, which will part of the 38th International Women’s Day.

In its workforce, Tasiast has 155 women, 85 of whom are employed directly by TMLSA and carry out various functions and responsibilities such as, for example, machine operators or engineers. Each of them was able to invite a member of their family to show them their working environment as well as their living spaces and their relaxation and leisure areas. The visits, meals and shared moments thus allowed a rich exchange around the realities of life on the site, the families discovering for the occasion the quality of the living conditions and Safety on a daily basis at Tasiast.

During the official ceremony, inaugurated by Mr. Brahim M’Bareck, President of TMLSA, the interventions and sharing of experience with Mrs. Maria Rodmell, Vice-President (Human Resources) of Kinross Gold, who came especially from Canada for the o occasion, Lo Khadijetou Cheikh sociologist and former university professor, Maimouna Haida, airline pilot on Air Mauritanie and Mariem Haballa, one of the first female electricians at Tasiast, were a great inspiration for all those present.

Over the past few years, Kinross has implemented many facilities to optimize the integration of women into its mining and industrial context. Thus, the possibility given to pregnant employees to travel by plane for rotations, the increase in the duration of maternity leave, increased to 28 weeks, or the inauguration of a relaxation area reserved for women are all of illustrations of the attention that Tasiast pays to its employees.

Today, convinced of the need to open up more professional opportunities for them, Tasiast plans to increase the number of women recruited into its teams.

It was in 1975, during the International Women’s Year, that the United Nations began to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8. It is now actively celebrated every year around the world (www.internationalwomensday.com)
