Taxi driver’s license revoked for defrauding YouTuber

The prefecture of the Marrakech region decided on Thursday to withdraw the trusted license of a small taxi driver, accused of having defrauded a famous British YouTuber. According to local sources, the taxi driver asked his client for 350 dirhams for a transfer from Marrakech-Menara international airport to Jamaa El-Fna. The driver, who received 400 dirhams from the customer, even tried to keep the 50 dirhams on arrival.

The decision taken against him comes from the direction of economic and social affairs of the wilaya of Marrakech-Safi, after the YouTuber Simon Wilson published a video of his trip to Morocco, viewed by thousands of Internet users.

The British YouTuber, after realizing the scam, posted a second video on social networksdocumenting his exchange at the end with the driver, who tried to keep the 400 dirhams for the ride, arguing that the 50 dirhams would be a “tip”.

The competent authorities set the price of 70 dirhams for small taxis and 100 dirhams for large ones for the transfer of Moroccan and foreign passengers to and from Marrakech Menara International Airport and this, in the direction of all parts of the ocher city. .
