Berlin Deutsche Telekom has agreed with 1&1 to share the fiber optic network. The Bonn Dax group reported on Wednesday that the first product contract had been signed. This is a prerequisite for 1&1 and its subsidiary Versatel to be able to offer their own fiber optic offers via the Telekom network with immediate effect.

The Federal Network Agency, which relies on market participants offering their own solutions, welcomed the agreement. President Jochen Homann said: “The two companies are consistently and successfully continuing on their chosen path of gigabit expansion on the basis of voluntary cooperation agreements.”

Telekom and 1&1 had agreed more than a year ago that 1&1 might use Telekom’s fiber optic network in addition to VDSL. The responsible Telekom manager now said: “All sides benefit from this partnership: We make greater use of our network, our marketing partner gets a greater range and the customers have a variety of providers.”
