Testicular Cancer Awareness: Detecting the First Signs through Self-Examination

To detect the first signs of testicular cancer, a French cancer foundation recommends that men feel them.

The Cancer Research Foundation (ARC) has used the services of drag queen The Nickey Doll to encourage Internet users to feel their balls, according to what “20 Minutes” reported on Friday.

In a viral video on TikTok, the organization is trying to raise awareness in particular among young men aged 20-35 in whom testicular cancer is most common, but many do not know it.

“We support the testicle with four fingers then we roll the thumb to look for an irregularity or a small mass,” Natacha Naoun, medical oncologist at Gustave Roussy hospital in Villejuif, told French media.

This exercise is ideal to perform following a hot shower or bath, because “the skin is more relaxed and you can feel the small roughnesses better, if there are any,” she explained, advising to compare the two testicles in front of a mirror.

The expert explains that not all lumps are synonymous with tumors, since they can be inflammation or accumulation of water, hence the need for her to consult a doctor to get a good diagnosis, according to “20 Minutes”.
