Decidedly, the Apple Watch is turning into a real daily health tool.
Regularly, the connected watch from Apple hits the headlines for having saved a person from drowning or for warning the future cardiac arrest of its user. A person who feels unwell and falls to the ground will alert the Apple Watch which will instantly contact the emergency services, for example.
Kim Durkee, a 67-year-old American from Maine, will probably thank Apple for saving her life. As CBS Boston reports, Kim was receiving a flurry of notifications in late May that her heart was in atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat in the 400 bpm range.
For three nights in a row, she received notifications indicating numbers “a little too high to be comforted”. She went to the hospital where doctors found her to have myxoma, a rare, fast-growing tumor that can restrict blood flow to the heart and lead to a stroke. She went to the operating table and the doctors saved her life.
“I consider myself very lucky to be here and to be able to talk about it”, she explains to our colleagues from CBS. According to doctors, Kim would certainly have died today without her Apple Watch.
