The letter from the attorney general is addressed to the president of the Bar Council, Victoria Ortega, in response to a statement agreed on Friday by the plenary session of this body under the title of Institutional statement in defense of respect for the confidentiality of communications in the action protocols for compliance trials. The Attorney’s Office did not openly point out the Prosecutor’s Office, but it did in a veiled manner: “It is legitimate for the Prosecutor’s Office, in the use of the powers attributed to it by its Organic Statute, to report in relation to events that appeared in the media in which Question your actions. However, for this Council, such communications cannot, in any case, exceed the information powers attributed to the Prosecutor’s Office by the aforementioned Statute,” stated the statement, which omits any reference to the message disseminated by Ayuso’s chief of staff.

The Bar Council also demanded in its letter the “immediate constitution” of a mixed commission between this body and the State Attorney General’s Office to review and update the protocol of action for conformity trials signed between the two. In the letter sent this Monday, García Ortiz announces that he will give instructions “immediately” to launch this commission. The prosecutor points out that the security systems will also be reviewed to ensure that there are no leaks of data and files that are in the custody of the Prosecutor’s Office. “Without a doubt, it will be the implementation of new and advanced computer tools that will allow us to reliably and rigorously follow the traceability of any documentation, as well as guarantee the protection of reserved data,” says García Ortiz.

The attorney general met on Friday with the president of the Bar and with the dean of the Madrid Bar Association, Eugenio Ribón, after this institution released the statement in which it directly accused the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of having committed a “revelation of secrets” of “extreme gravity” in the case of Ayuso’s boyfriend. The bar association threatened to take action. García Ortiz states in the letter sent to Ortega that at the meeting “two apparently antagonistic interpretations were revealed” about what happened with the contacts between the public ministry and González Amador’s lawyer. “I don’t want to delve into them, but I do want to highlight that, despite the divergent points of view and the strict protection of the interests of both institutions by those who direct them, there was also a space to look to the future and find consensus solutions to “how many complications may have been generated,” says the prosecutor.
