The author of the fatwa “A woman donates part of her husband to another”: I apologize for what I said

In a strange fatwa that sparked controversy in Egypt, the religious preacher Sheikh Islam Radwan demanded that a woman “donate part of her husband” to another woman.

In his statements to the Egyptian channel “Ten”, Radwan said that a woman can “donate part of her husband to protect a second family through marriage,” wondering “why when a woman marries, she takes possession of her husband and considers him her private property and no one has the right to share it with her?”

He asked, “Why does the wife not accept that her husband marries a widow and is responsible for her orphaned children, especially if she does not have a source of livelihood, income or housing?”, noting that “there are women who offer their husbands to marry others.”

This fatwa aroused great controversy and widespread women’s anger.

Al-Arabiya.net contacted the preacher, who said that he had previously apologized for what he had said and others had misunderstood it. He also said that he did not mean what was said literally and that he apologized, indicating that he had learned “the necessity and importance of apologizing when a mistake is made.”
