Baltimore Lands Jacoby Brissett Amid QB Injury Crisis

The Baltimore Ravens are acquiring quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals, according to Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, as the team deals with injuries to Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley.

Brissett Set for Week 10 Debut

The deal, first reported by Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, will not be finalized before this weekend, ruling Brissett out for Thursday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Joe Fagnano was named Baltimore’s starter for that matchup on Tuesday. Brissett is expected to make his Ravens debut against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10, and with no return date set for Jackson, he will start with Fagnano as the backup.

Cardinals Shift to Minshew

Discussions between the teams began Sunday and intensified Tuesday afternoon, according to ESPN. The Cardinals had benched Brissett in favor of Gardner Minshew, who was named Arizona’s starter on Monday, with rookie Carson Beck moved to the backup role. Brissett was benched during Arizona’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Experienced Backup for Ravens

Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork, in his first year in Baltimore, worked with Brissett last season in Arizona, when Brissett stepped in for the injured Kyler Murray. Brissett, the 91st overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, has played for seven franchises over 10 seasons, starting 73 of 109 career games for 16,485 yards, 86 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. This season he is 3-5 with 1,719 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Addressing Baltimore’s QB Depth

Huntley is out for the rest of the year with a turf toe injury suffered Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, the same game in which Jackson hurt his thumb.

DAZN NFL journalist Ana Gonzalez said Brissett could bring stability to the Ravens and become a reference Fagnano will rely on during games.
