The clue that links the attack on the Carabineros where Toño Marchant died with the group of Pelentaro Llaitul | bbcl_research

At least two rifles fired the day that Pablo Marchant died during a confrontation with Carabineros, in a task at Forestal Mininco de Carahue, La Araucanía region. One was found that same day in the hands of the deceased member of the CAM, while the other was never heard from again. Until now.

One year and seven months after that Friday, July 9, 2021, Pelentaro Llaitul was arrested. The son of Héctor Llaitul, the historic spokesperson for the CAM, fell this Tuesday in a police procedure carried out after arson attacks in La Araucanía.

Five people were arrested for the attack awarded by the Arauco Malleco Coordinator: one of them, the 19-year-old Llaitul. It was precisely during this operation that the Carabineros managed to seize three weapons.

According to information collected by the BioBioChile Research Unitit is about two shotguns and a rifle, brand HK, series 073110, caliber 7.62 with charger.

Sources from this medium point out that after ballistic expert reports, the Investigative Police managed to determine that the seized rifle corresponds to the same one used during the night that Marchant died in a confrontation. The weapon whose trace was lost.

the expertise

The ammunition found in the Fundo San Luis de Galvarino was contrasted with those found in the Fundo Santa Ana Tres Palos, where Pablo Marchant died. With this, the PDI established that the percussion rifle was the same.

The precedent was presented by the Public Ministry this Friday, at the hearing to formalize charges against Pelentaro and the other four detainees: Luis Menares Chanilao, Luis Fuenzalida Eneros, Jorge Caniupil Coña and Juan Mardones Sáez.

In addition to determining responsibilities in the arson attack on Tuesday, the investigation led by prosecutors Enrique Vásquez, Miguel Ángel Rojas and Carlos Cornejo seeks, precisely, to clarify whether some of the accused participated in the confrontation with Carabineros where Marchant died.

The death of the Anthropology student from the University of Concepción was not only a heavy loss for the CAM, but also meant the seizure of key pieces to identify the links of the Coordinator with other events that occurred in Bío Bío and La Araucanía.

An example of this, in addition to the rifle, is Marchant’s phone that, after his death, fell into the hands of the prosecution and the PDI.

From the Samsung brand mobile device, the Public Ministry extracted a telephone book with 50 contacts.

As this medium was able to verify, after crossing that information with parallel investigations to the CAM, it was possible to establish close links between Toño Marchant and the Llaitul family. Specifically through Ernesto Llaitul Pezoa, leader of one of the organization’s ORTs, according to what was established by the Public Ministry.

The contacts also included three other defendants in the case for an arson attack registered at Fundo Punta Arenas in Los Angeles, cause for which Ernesto – Pelentaro’s brother – is currently in preventive detention.

El tour

During the hearing this Friday, the Public Ministry detailed the facts for which it charged Pelentaro. In good accounts, the youngest Llaitul to be arrested participated in at least two arson attacks on the day of his arrest, the prosecution stated. The result? At least four trucks, a forest camp and machinery ended up burned.

The tour began at around 8:20 a.m. on November 22 just last year. The defendants arrived at the San Luis property in the Lautaro commune, owned by the FHO company. There, with shots, they intimidated the workers and quickly set fire to three Mercedes Benz trucks and an excavator. When the task was complete, they displayed a canvas that precisely commemorated Pablo Marchant:

“25 YEARS OF STRUGGLE / CATRILEO IN THE STRUGGLE ALWAYS REMEMBERED / TOÑO IN THE MEMORY OF EACH WEICHAFE / FREEDOM TO HECTOR LLAITUL / RICARDO D REINAO / ESTEBAN HENRIQUEZ / ERNESTO LLAITUL / DANIEL CANIO / LUIS V TRAMOLAO / WITH SABOTAGE WE CLAIM OUR PRISONERS / OUR FALLEN IN WEICHAN / THE FIGHT CONTINUES AND ADVANCES”.

The attack did not end there. According to the prosecution, the defendants also stole a Maxus truck and threatened its owner, a forestry worker, to make him reveal to them which sectors of the property had more machines.

The intimidation paid off: according to the investigation, the victim was forced to comply with the requirements of her captors and had to guide them to another part of the company, where they set fire to a JMC truck, a Bell-brand three-tire forestry machine, and a John Deere bulldozer.

It took about half an hour for the worker to be released onto a logging road.

“FIRE and BULLET”

There is more. An hour after the first act, the defendants arrived aboard the stolen truck to a forestry camp of the Hancoock Chilean Plantations company, located in the La Colonia de Temuco sector.

There they fired and forced the workers to lie on the ground. They doused a truck and the camp facilities that were used as a dining room, casino, and bedrooms with fuel to set them on fire. The property was totally destroyed.

According to the investigations, before fleeing, those involved stole three chainsaws, a radio unit and a brushcutter. There they did not leave a canvas, but they did write -with spray and on a wall- a brief slogan:

“FIRE AND BULLET, FREEDOM TO THE PPM CAM ARAUCO MALLECO COORDINATOR, ART ANGANOMUN…”.

The tour concluded with the defendants setting fire to the stolen van in which they were traveling. From there, they followed the path on foot, a route where they were surprised by police officers. They tried to flee through a ravine and hide among the vegetation, but one by one they were arrested.

By around 3:30 p.m. everyone had already been arrested.
