The downfall of Rudy Giuliani: From hero to zero in American politics

There was a time when Rudolph ‘Rudy’ Giuliani was the most popular and respected politician in the US Now his public figure is a shambles, a broken doll of ‘Trumpism’ that few, including Republicans, want to associate with. Charges filed this week against him in New York, involving sexual assault, deceit and abuse of his relationship with Donald Trumpthey could end up sinking you into the mud.

Giuliani was in the 1980s a ruthless prosecutor in Manhattan, who gained fame for cutting off the heads of New York mob bosses. He was elected mayor of the Big Apple in 1994 and is still remembered as the man who stemmed the wave of criminal violence on his streets. His leadership at the head of the city after the 9/11 attacks made him the ‘mayor of America’ and his fame gave him presidential aspirations.

He only managed to enter the White House through the back door, as Trump’s personal lawyer and as stump of his campaign against electoral theft in 2020: the image of those weeks is that of a Giuliani unleashed, sweating, with hair dye running down his face and releasing outlandish allegations – and never supported by the courts – about fraud at the polls.

Now other allegations -even more extravagant- go against him. Noelle Dunphy, a 43-year-old woman, has filed an indictment this week against Giuliani, 78, before the New York Supreme Court.

It is not uncommon for Giuliani to have legal entanglements: right now he has your law license suspended in New York state and is under federal investigation for trying to upend the 2020 election results. But the allegations by Dunphy’s lawyers are seventy pages of sordid criminality.

Dunphy’s accusations

Dunphy defends that the defendant hired him during the last two years of the Trump Administration – Giuliani was then a lawyer for the president – to develop his business, with a salary of one million dollars and expenses paid.

As soon as I started working with him, the sexual abuse and assault began. On his first business trip, he forced him to perform fellatio on him. AND it didn’t take long to move on to rapeaccording to his story.

Giuliani made it clear to him that “satisfying his sexual needs – which appeared at any time and in any place – was a requirement of his employment,” explains the letter, full of graphic details: for example, that Giuliani demanded oral relations while he was in the phone with other people, like Trump himself. «Made him feelin’ like Bill Clinton‘”, He said.

Giuliani made it clear to him that “satisfying his sexual needs – which appeared at any time and in any place – was a requirement of his job”

Dunphy claims he has recordings of Giuliani saying things like “I’m going to make you hurt,” “Be a bitch, be a bitch to Rudy!” or “I think of you as my daughter, is that weird?” There is no record that Dunphy made these allegations to the Police. In his letter he demands a ten million dollar repair.

But his allegations go further: he assures that Giuliani offered to sell the presidential pardon that Trump could grant for two million dollars and half for him and the president. Also that stole his salary – he never saw those millions of dollars – and that he asked her to lie to the FBI about the things she had seen and heard while working for him.

Giuliani’s representatives deny everything and say that Dunphy’s allegations are “harassment and attempted extortion».
