TASS, December 17. Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk refused to play the final match of the exhibition tournament in the French Bourg-de-Page against the Russian Mirra Andreeva. The press service of the competition reported this.

In a statement, the tournament organizers note that the Ukrainian made this decision due to the geopolitical situation. Earlier, Kostyuk replaced Croatian Donna Vekic, who was injured. Andreeva’s opponent in the final will be Frenchman Yanis Ghazouani Duran.

Andreeva is 16 years old and ranked 57th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. In 2023, the athlete reached the third round of the French Open, the fourth round of Wimbledon and the second round of the US Open. She also reached the final of the junior Australian Open. At the end of the season, the WTA recognized Andreeva as the best newcomer of the year.

Kostyuk is 21 years old. The Ukrainian is ranked 39th in the world and has one WTA title to her name. The best result of a tennis player at Grand Slam tournaments is reaching the fourth round of the French Open in 2021.
