The Fascinating World of Reality TV Revealed: A Journey into the Depths of ‘Praise from the Surface’

I have never hooked on any reality TV show: like the parents of Yasmina, the heroine of this very successful Praise from the surface, this kind of entertainment bores me and I have a thousand other ways to better waste my time. By reading comics, for example. Fascinated by trash-TV shows, Yasmina, a shrink by profession, decides, to outdo her family of brilliant intellectuals, and shame them along the way, to participate in the casting of a show.

No luck for her, her amateur act does not work too well: she is spotted by the film crew and hired as a… journalist, in particular to script “Southerners in Thailand” and animate the long interviews in front of the camera that punctuate the show. Instead of shining in the spotlight, she finds herself in the shadows, but what she discovers is fascinating.

Docu-fiction roundly well done, this album plunges as the subtitle indicates “in the depths of reality tv” and manages, quite cleverly, to reverse the arguments of the detractors of this kind of show. Without making you want to be passionate about the endless gossip filmed between tattooed influencers, we take pleasure in better understanding how this machine to fascinate during the tired brains of millions of viewers for hours.

Much better scripted than an episode of Marseille, drawn with nervousness, energy and, one would say, a lot of fun, this “Praise of the surface” is an excellent surprise to savor by the pool. By telling ourselves that we still live in a strange time, where the dough makes producers, channels and candidates do famous bullshit.
