Lawyers for both sides argued Wednesday in a Sarasota County, Fla., court about the relevance of the letter to the lawsuit filed by Gabby Petito’s parents against Brian Laundrie’s parents.

The envelope containing the letter, which reads “burn after opening”, was found in Brian Laundrie’s backpack when his remains were discovered in October 2021.

Recall that the disappearance of the influencer Gabby Petito had triggered national research and made headlines around the world. Her boyfriend at the time, Brian Laudrie, had returned from a trip without her.

The young woman’s remains were found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest in September 2021 and her death was ruled a homicide by strangulation.

Before taking his own life, Brian Laundrie wrote in a notebook that he was responsible for Gabby’s death, according to the FBI. His body was found the following month on a reservation not far from his parents’ home in North Port, Florida.

Gabby Petito’s parents are suing Brian Laundrie’s for emotional distress over their daughter’s death, according to CNN.

They allege the Laundrie family refused to call or text them during their daughter’s disappearance.

On the other hand, the Laundrie family believes that it owed nothing to the Petitos.
