I saw Ajax’s Under 17s play three times this season, including against PSV, when they messed up a good first half hour after a countergoal. PSV won. Until the final of the Future Cup, trainer Yuri Rose did better. The midfield was balanced, especially by Gerald Alders’ screeching 125cc engine, a never fading quiet force. Another standout until the final was Faberski, a winger who rarely lost a ball.
The final against Nordsjaelland resembled that match against PSV. The good start of Ajax now lasted one minute. Then Kayden Wolff blew a big chance and the fun was over. Against Anderlecht, the tall defender Dies Janse had suffered a head injury. Instead, someone a foot shorter played in the back. That made a difference. The vaunted Wolff suffered from puberty. He was switched.
