The Government defends that the investigation into Ayuso’s partner followed the usual path of tax fraud cases | Spain

The vice president of the Government and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero (PSOE), defended this Wednesday that the tax inspection of the Tax Agency against the partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid, has followed the usual procedures of this type of processes. Sources from the Prosecutor’s Office insist on the same line when referring, also, to the subsequent complaint that the public ministry has filed against Alberto González Amador, boyfriend of the popular leader, for defrauding the public treasury of 350,951 euros.

Ayuso charged this Wednesday against several institutions and in a press conference presented herself as the victim of a plot “by all the powers of the State” against her partner. The Minister of Finance responded to his words later, during an interview on Cadena SER: “It’s a lie. The first thing I want is to absolutely deny and defend the professionalism of all the employees of the Tax Agency, who do a rigorous job pursuing tax fraud as is their obligation. Because, to have a fair tax system, everyone has to contribute according to their ability.” The vice president has stressed: “[Las declaraciones de Ayuso] They have reminded me of the permanent excuse of the conspiracy theory, to which the PP has accustomed us. An excuse always leads them to be the victim and not take responsibility.”

Once the Treasury inspection process was completed, the case reached the Madrid Prosecutor’s Office. And, once there, the case of Ayuso’s couple followed the usual path that these types of procedures follow, according to sources from the public ministry. In these cases, the Tax Agency sends all the documentation and information to the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, which automatically forwards it to the specialists in its economic crimes section. This department is, for example, the one that has brought the accusation against Carlo Ancelotti, current coach of Real Madrid and to whom two tax crimes are also attributed for defrauding the public treasury of more than one million euros in 2014 and 2015.

According to these same sources, after reaching the economic crimes area, a prosecutor is assigned to the case. This prepares a report and, subsequently, a complaint is written. A letter that the dean of the department sees first; before, later, the provincial chief prosecutor of Madrid does the same. It is then sent to the courts to proceed with the distribution and decide which court is responsible for analyzing the case.

Despite all this procedure, in which numerous officials intervene, Ayuso has decided to present herself as a victim of “political persecution” to cover up the Koldo case, which affects the former advisor of the former socialist minister José Luis Ábalos. Already this Tuesday, after learning the content of the complaint against the boyfriend of the president of the Community, the head of the regional government chose to place the target on the Madrid Prosecutor’s Office: “The Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office is chaired by a lady who was director general in the Ministry of Justice with [José Luis Rodríguez] Zapatero”, he wrote on his X account (the social network formerly called Twitter). The truth is that the current provincial chief prosecutor, Pilar Rodríguez, is not the prosecutor who signs the complaint against her boyfriend and, furthermore, during her mandate, the Madrid Prosecutor’s Office has spoken out on different occasions in favor of the interests of her Executive. and from the PP: for example, it did not see “criminal relevance” in complaints about deaths from covid in residences; and she maintained the request that the party be acquitted in the trial over the destruction of the hard drives of the computers used by Luis Bárcenas, a former popular treasurer convicted of corruption.

After Ayuso’s attack, the Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF) came out in defense of the work of the colleagues of the Madrid Prosecutor’s Office: “UPF wants to express its most absolute disagreement with the questioning of the professionalism of the chief prosecutor of Madrid in based on his previous career in positions of responsibility in public organizations. We remind all politicians that legality and impartiality are the guides of action of any prosecutor in Spain. It is necessary to emphasize that justice and democracy are truly harmed by the absolute lack of rigor in public criticism.”
