The presence of the police has been reinforced for several weeks in the Sainctelette-Yser district in Brussels because of the nuisance linked to drug trafficking, said Wednesday the spokesperson for the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone, Ilse Van de Keere.
The use of crack and the resulting crime have already been pointed out by residents and local associations in several districts of the capital, particularly in the area around the Gare du Midi as well as in the Brabant district near the station. North.
The feeling of insecurity is also growing in the Yser and Sainctelette district, not far from Place Sainte-Catherine, to such an extent that police patrols have been increased there. In mid-July, two men were attacked by a drug addict at the Yser metro station. Two weeks later, local residents filed a complaint for nuisance from the terrace of the Flamingo café, where many crack users and sex workers meet in the evening after closing.

Eric Vandezandre, who is part of the Yser-Sainctelette neighborhood committee, wonders however if repression is the right method to fight against nuisances.
