The ISIS attack on Al-Hasakah prison is the largest and most organized

The joint head of the Defense Office in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Zaidan Al-Asi, announced today, Friday, that full control of the Industry Prison, Ghweran District Al-Hasakah city.

He said in a statement, “Currently our forces, with the air support of the international coalition, are in full control of the prison and the Ghweran neighborhood, and only some individuals remain, and the clashes are still going on for this moment.”

He also added, “It is noticeable in this attack that it is the largest and most organized since the defeat of ISIS, and if it indicates anything, it indicates that there is an international force that supports these terrorist groups or turns a blind eye to their movements in order to strike security and stability in the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.”

Turkey moves its forces

“We noticed with the start of the ISIS terrorist attack that Turkey also moved its forces and the mercenary forces that were with it towards Tal Tamr, and also used marches to strike the incoming columns to support the forces that entered in order to liberate the prison and the area from terrorist groups,” Al-Assi added.

The official in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria said, “ISIS still exists and is trying to restore its ranks in Syria and Iraq, and the international community must assume its responsibilities towards this organization.”

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported earlier this evening that clashes renewed in the vicinity of Ghweran prison and the surrounding neighborhoods, amid the flight of international coalition warplanes over the area and dropping light bombs over the prison. In his report, he said that dozens of employees and prison guards are being held by ISIS members inside the prison.

He added that a plane of the International Coalition bombed the building of the Faculty of Economics in the city of Hasaka, after a group of fleeing prisoners disobeyed in the building, without receiving information on the extent of the damage and human losses.

The observatory also continued that the international coalition forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces brought military reinforcements to the Ghweran neighborhood in al-Hasakah, amid continuing chaos in the neighborhood.

Repel the ISIS attack

In turn, the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, announced earlier in the day that they had succeeded in repelling the ISIS attack on Ghweran prison in Al-Hasakah and arrested all the fugitives.

Abdi said on Twitter, “ISIS mobilized most of its sleeper cells in an attempt to organize an escape from prison with the help of suicide bombers and a rebellion by detainees inside the prison.” Our fight against ISIS continues and we will not stop until all criminal elements are put behind bars.”

However, ISIS’s Amaq News Agency said today that its fighters have launched a large-scale attack on Ghweran prison in al-Hasakah province, “with the aim of liberating the prisoners held inside it.” She added that clashes are still ongoing in the vicinity of the prison and other neighborhoods.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had reported earlier today that the death toll from the events of the Ghweran prison area in Hasakah had risen to 67, including 39 from ISIS. And counter-terrorism forces and prison guards, in addition to five civilians.

The observatory stated that the death toll from the clashes is likely to rise, as there are a large number of wounded, in addition to information about other deaths.
