The jack gave way - the bus buried the driver at the A8 gas station

At 2:50 p.m. at the gas station, police officers saw a man trapped under the rear of an articulated bus. According to initial evidence, the man may have carried out various repairs on the underbody of the bus using a jack intended for a car. It probably couldn’t have withstood the weight of the bus.

The police immediately started the rescue chain. Together with another 15-20 people, an attempt was made to immediately lift the rear of the bus in order to free the trapped person – a German of Romanian origin. Since no suitable equipment was available, attempts were made to lift the articulated bus using combined muscle power until a jack specifically designed for heavy transport was procured. But this was only possible with a suitable jack. The handlebars were then pulled out from under the vehicle and a passer-by began resuscitation. Shortly afterwards, the rescue team arrived and took over further first aid and ongoing resuscitation – however, only the man’s death could be determined.

Meanwhile, the officers were able to collect the victim’s data as part of the investigation. The victim was a 45-year-old German citizen.
