This Monday evening, May 1, Pickx + broadcast the first of six episodes of the documentary series which traces Kim Clijsters’ comeback attempt. In 2019, Kim Clijsters announced on her Instagram account that she wanted to return to the tennis courts. Unfortunately, after an absence of several years on the circuit and a pandemic, this return was not as simple as expected. In mid-2022, the former world number one decided to put an end to her career as a professional tennis player.
In this first episode which begins with a telephone discussion between Kim and her husband, Brian Lynch, in 2020, the Limburger already wants to dump everything: “I’ve had enough, I can’t take it anymore. We are going to cancel the documentary.”
We feel a Kim at her wit’s end, quite the opposite of the following shot, where with her son Jack at the end of 2022, she walks on the beach and her two dogs, as if to show an image of family happiness found after the difficult period of his comeback.
”Mom, you have a big can”
The episode then resumes chronologically in 2019 with Kim training with her manager, Bob Laes and her physio-osteopath: Sam Verslegers. There, already, the latter raises doubts about the physical capacity of our compatriot to make his comeback. “Ten tournaments over the year is a lot.” Later, Kim announces her intention to return to her former coach, Carl Maes: “You’re crazy”
Between training sessions and her family life with her children Jack, Jada, Blake and her husband, Kim plays an exhibition match at Wimbledon against Venus Williams with the analysis of the one that will remain throughout her comeback: the blows are there, his talent is there but the physique is too short.
Kim is aware of this and she will embark on a diet to lose her belly, the one that makes one of her children say that her mother is still expecting a baby in her big can.
