Earth Hour is a global action organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) once a year at the end of March, encouraging people, communities, businesses and government agencies to switch off unnecessary electricity lighting for one hour, from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. The aim is to raise awareness among citizens but also to save energy, in a symbolic movement of protest in favor of the protection of the natural environment.
Earth Hour is an annual event in which people, businesses and governments are invited to turn off their lights and switch off electrical appliances for one hour to take part in the fight against climate change and show action their support for environmental protection.
The Earth Hour movement is a global initiative, launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007, with the aim of raising people’s awareness of issues related to the environment and climate change.
Tonight, among others, the Sydney Opera House, the Empire State Building in New York and the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, but also here, in Athens, the Presidential Palace and part of El. Venizelos turned off their lights at 8:30 pm for an hour.
According to WWF, “Earth Hour” like every year, this year as well, addresses a call to everyone, a message dedicated to forests and their protection.
Earth Hour has grown into a global movement that unites people worldwide and pushes them to become aware of and take action on environmental issues.
The initiative belonged to the environmental organization WWF and advertising agency Leo Burnett.
