The Chinese manufacturer MG has just formalized the MG4 with great autonomy in Australia. We thus know its autonomy, up sharply compared to current versions, but also its price. It should soon arrive in Europe, by the end of the year.

Currently, the MG4 is available with two different batteries: 51 and 64 kWh. The first allows the affordable Chinese electric car to claim 350 km of range on the WLTP cycle, compared to 435 to 450 km with the larger battery depending on the version. Last February, MG announced the upcoming marketing of a version with a larger battery, with a range of over 500 km. This one finally arrives, starting with Australia.

More than 500 km of autonomy

As can be read in the press release from the manufacturer, the new version Long Range (Grande Autonomie in French) will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 77 kWh. This allows the manufacturer to announce a theoretical WLTP range of 530 km. Enough to overshadow the Tesla Model 3 Propulsion with its range of 510 km thanks to its 60 kWh battery.

An even more efficient car

This new battery also inaugurates a new, more efficient engine, with a power of 180 kW (244 hp) against 150 kW (203 hp) for the 64 kWh battery and 125 kW (169 hp) for the small 51 kWh battery. MG then indicates a 0 to 100 km / h shot in less than 7 seconds against 7.9 seconds on the other versions.

Fast charging is also evolving, with a power peak of 138 kW (compared to 135 kW currently), which makes it possible to go from 10-80% battery in 28 minutescompared to 35 and 40 minutes respectively for the 64 and 51 kWh batteries.

The X-Power Dual Motor AWD version with all-wheel drive, which could overshadow the Tesla Model 3 Performance, is also cited by MG. It is expected for the second half of 2023, but the Chinese brand is still reluctant to market this version in Australia.

Available from the second half of 2023

This new version Great Autonomy would arrive from the second half of 2023 in Australia. Chances are it’ll be similar in Europe, with an arrival by the end of the year for this and the sporty X-Power version. But the brand has not yet communicated on this subject in Europe.

Regarding the price, MG Australia announces 44,990 Australian dollars for the entry-level 64 kWh version, 47,990 Australian dollars for the top-of-the-range 64 kWh version and finally 55,990 Australian dollars for the Long Autonomy version with its 77 battery. kWh. In France, the first two versions are equivalent to the Comfort and Luxury finishes.

For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 Propulsion is sold from 61,300 Australian dollars, against 41,990 euros in France.

What we can remember is that we must count approximately 25% increase between the Comfort version and the Long Autonomy version. In other words, with a price in France of 33,990 euros for the Comfort version, we can expect around 42,000 euros in the Long Range version. And again, this is without counting on the price increases of around 3,000 euros which are planned for Germany on the whole range, and which could arrive in France in the coming weeks as well.
