The Ministry of Social Affairs distributed Rp. 1.96 billion for the victim of the Bandar Lampung flood

The Ministry of Social Affairs (Ministry of Social Affairs) sent assistance worth Rp 568 million to residents affected by floods in the city of Bandar Lampung and surrounding areas. In addition, assistance worth Rp 1.4 billion was also sent to Lampung for disaster preparedness in the province.

“We ensure that all assistance immediately reached the community affected by the flood, today the logistics have arrived in Lampung. Starting yesterday we have mobilized from the social barn in Palembang to Bandar Lampung to further be distributed,” said Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) In a written statement, Sunday (2/23/2025).

Assistance sent for Lampung floods consists of basic needs such as 2,000 fast food packages, 1,000 packages of fast food side dishes, 2 multipurpose tents, 10 portable family tents, 250 roll tents, 200 kidsware packages, 200 family kit packages, 300 blanket packages , and 300 mattresses. This assistance distribution includes Bandar Lampung City, South Lampung Regency, and Pesawaran Regency.

If it is still lacking, the Ministry of Social Affairs also prepares a preparedness assistance worth Rp1,495 billion for disaster preparedness in Lampung Province. Disaster preparedness assistance in Lampung Province consists of 5,000 fast food packages; 1,000 Package of File Side side dishes; 3 Multipurpose Tent Units; 25 Portable Family Tent Units; 400 sheets of roll tents; 500 Kidsware Packages; 500 packages of family kit; 500 blankets; and 500 mattresses. All assistance is currently in Lampung.

In addition to assistance, if a victim died, the Ministry of Social Affairs also immediately provided compensation. While the injured victims will also be given treatment assistance.

Gus Ipul stressed that this assistance was a form of government concern for the affected community.

“We want to ensure that all disaster victims get help quickly and precisely. We urge the public to be calm and follow the official direction of the government or officers in the field,” he said.

Just to note, Lampung floods caused 2,181 houses in three areas to be flooded. Basarnas together with Tagana and the TNI/Polri and various parties continue to make evacuation and search for residents who are still trapped in flood -affected locations.

The previous Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had also issued a ‘aware’ warning for the city of Bandar Lampung, Sunday (23/2), following high rainfall reaching 50.6 mm since 00.51 WIB.

Interview with minister Saifullah Yusuf on Lampung’s Flood Response and Assistance Efforts

Q: Minister Saifullah Yusuf, thank you for taking the time to speak with us today. Can you start by updating us on the current situation in Bandar Lampung and the surrounding areas affected by the recent floods?

Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul): “Thank you for having me. The situation in Bandar Lampung and the affected areas is still critical, with 2,181 houses flooded. We’re continuously working with Basarnas,Tagana,and the TNI/Polri to evacuate residents and search for those still trapped.Theiculty of the situation is exacerbated by the heavy rainfall, wich has surpassed 50.6 mm since yesterday morning.”

Q: The Ministry of Social Affairs has been proactive in sending aid. Could you share some details about the assistance packages and how they’re being distributed?

Gus Ipul: “Indeed, we’ve sent assistance worth Rp 568 million for the affected areas. The packages include essentials like fast food and side dish packages, multipurpose and portable family tents, blankets, mattresses, and kidsware. We’ve distributed these in Bandar Lampung city,South Lampung,and Pesawaran. We ensure all assistance reaches the community quickly and precisely.”

Q: You’ve also prepared disaster preparedness assistance for Lampung Province. Can you tell us more about this and how it will help in the long run?

Gus Ipul: “Absolutely. We’ve prepared an additional Rp1,495 billion in disaster preparedness assistance. This includes more tents, blankets, mattresses, and food packages.The idea is to be proactive and ensure we have adequate supplies to respond swiftly to any future disasters. This will help us serve the community better in the long run.”

Q: How do you respond to criticisms about the government’s response time to natural disasters?

Gus Ipul: (pauses, then smiles) “Criticism is a part of our democracy, and we welcome it as an chance to improve. We acknowledge that there’s always room for improvement. However, I must stress that we’re doing our best to ensure our response is immediate and effective. We work tirelessly to refine our systems and processes to better serve the community in times of need.”

Q: Lastly, Minister, what message do you have for the affected communities and the public at large?

Gus Ipul: “My heart goes out to the affected communities. We’re working around the clock to ensure everyone gets the help they need. I urge the public to stay calm, follow official directions, and support each other during these challenging times. Together, we can overcome this.”
