With the aim of providing a model for an integrated port facility that works according to the latest global digital systems in Egypt, where the volume of direct employment in the project reached 500 direct workers, in addition to 2000 indirect jobs.
The Minister of Transport congratulated the political leadership and the great Egyptian people on launching the experiments of operating the first dry port in Egypt, which is the beginning of a great start for the establishment of 14 dry ports and logistics centers linked to railways and seaports that accommodate more than 5 million TEUs annually, referring to the port that aims to achieve several Economic, developmental, and environmental factors, including the development of logistics areas in the industrial zones, and the provision of direct and indirect job opportunities in the logistics sector in order to achieve the necessary efficiency, in addition to increasing circulation in seaports and preventing the accumulation of containers in them, as well as accelerating the work cycle of supply chains for exports and imports, pointing out He pointed out that the port will contribute to the digital transformation procedures for the movement of goods, and reduce the costs of delaying containers in ports and the resulting increase in product costs, in addition to that it will provide additional services to the logistics sector, and it will also contribute to reducing congestion on roads and axes with the movement of trucks, as well as the resulting accidents. And reduce harmful environmental emissions of carbon dioxide resulting from the movement of heavy transport trucks, as trains will be used for transportation It achieves a reduction in harmful emissions, which contributes to reducing climate change, pointing out that the October dry port project has won an award “IJ Global” As the best and first transportation project within the framework of the Green Cities Program of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in the Middle East and North Africa region, which serves the industrial zones in Egypt.
The Minister of Transport indicated that the October Dry Port is located in the heart of the industrial and logistical zone in the new 6th of October City on an area of 100 acres, 25 kilometers west of the industrial zone on the Bahariya Oasis Expressway, and near the regional ring road, and it is also connected to the Egyptian railway network through A railway linking the dry port with the Alexandria sea port through a railway link linking the port with the Imbaba/Al-Manashy/Al Ittihad/Alexandria line, which is planned to be doubled in order to facilitate the transportation of goods from the dry port to the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila, increase the transportation of goods by rail, and reduce the movement of goods Goods are on the roads to preserve them, adding that the maximum capacity of the port reaches 720,000 TEUs per year, and Umm Al-Mina includes storage yards for imports, exports, customs inspection, and buildings for all parties working in the port, in addition to the port containing specialized laboratories belonging to the General Authority for Export and Import Control Food Safety Authority The port also contains a yard for refrigerated containers that accommodate 132 containers, a yard for containers of standard dimensions, and five railway lines.
