Personalized plate: “BAKAKI”, “JMENFOUS”… the most unusual crossings on our roads
A few months ago, a license plate shocked a driver on the roads of Brussels. A Nazi reference that makes us wonder what the rules are for personalized plates. We know it, we come across many of them on our roads, sometimes quite funny and surprising. Here is a small selection
It’s quite upset that Gilles, a motorist, had reported to our colleagues from RTL that he had seen a car with a shameful license plate, on the roads of the capital.

Indeed, this personalized plate displayed “AH -88”. If that doesn’t sound shocking to you at first glance, it’s actually a Nazi reference.
What is allowed?
We then legitimately ask ourselves the question of how a license plate bearing such a message could have ended up on our roads. In reality, requesting a personalized plate is quite simple: all you have to do is go to the SPF Mobilité website and make a proposal. If the plate is already reserved, you see directly “not available”. This is also the case for an unauthorized plate.

Clarification on the criteria for granting or not granting a personalized plate Among these, we find the word “police”, which is not authorized (on the other hand, “cop” is). Certain insults are also prohibited, as are inappropriate remarks (discriminatory, racist, etc.), which will be automatically refused. But for a sequence of letters and numbers with such a meaning, it is possible that it will pass because the person from the Vehicle Registration Department does not see the hidden meaning…

Most of these personalized plates are obviously rather personal, like this couple of grandparents who have the “OPA-1” and “OMA-1” or humorous plates.
