Commenting on the latest developments regarding the Renaissance Dam, Dr. Abbas Sharaki, Professor of Geology and Water Resources at Cairo University, said that satellites showed that the dam’s two turbines had stopped working since late August and early September, as shown in the attached photos.
Sharaki added, through a post on his Facebook page: And for those who have pictures of them working (the turbines) at that time, let him announce it.. The stopping of the two turbines is not a big deal until we claim that; Because while they are working, they have no importance, either in terms of electricity production or in terms of water passage, except to raise the morale of the Ethiopian people without real return.
The professor of geology and water resources at Cairo University added that it is possible for the two turbines to work in the event of calm waters and low silt and the preparation of the transmission network.
Sharaki said: Satellites show the opening of the gates of the Sudanese dams of Roseires, Sennar and Meroe; To pass part of the water towards the High Dam, while continuing to store it also for the prescribed share.
