The number of vacancies in Canada broke a new record in April 2022, crossing the one million mark, the federal agency “Statistics Canada” announced on Friday.

This is what emerges from a press release posted on Friday on the federal agency’s electronic site.

This is an increase of more than 40% in one year, specifies Statistics Canada, which indicates that this situation contributes to the rise in wages but also fuels fears of inflation.

Note that Canada has been facing an inflationary spiral for several months; the inflation rate having reached 7.7%.

The number of vacancies hit just over a million at the start of April, up more than 40% from the same time as inflation fears arose.

The number of vacancies that Canadian employers are looking to fill stands at 1 million 1 thousand 100 positions, an increase of 308 thousand positions compared to April 2021.

“In April, for the first time, wage employment in all provinces had returned to the level observed in February 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic, or had exceeded this level,” the statement read.

According to observers of the Canadian economic scene, this upward trend in job vacancies began in the first quarter of 2016.

Last May, the unemployment rate in Canada hit a historic low with a rate of 5.1%. This rate is historically the lowest since 1976, when comparable data became available.
