There are many people walking around the Speelhof area in Sint-Truiden. It must be said that the place boasts of offering “one of the most beautiful walks in the region”. However, last weekend, walkers made a surprising discovery while strolling along the pond.

The water there was strangely… very pink. “It looked like pink paint had been mixed with the water from the pond,” visitors were surprised on Sunday. Especially since the brave few who dipped their hand in the pond came out with a sticky substance. Pollution ? Supernatural phenomenon? Behind every oddity, there is usually a logical explanation.
And a regular visitor to the park has his own idea on the matter. “I suspect the leaves of the special trees located on the banks are responsible for this coloring,” explains the nature lover to our colleagues at Belang van Limburg. “These leaves take on a particular color in autumn,” he adds. Hence the pink.
And if walkers usually do not have the opportunity to witness the phenomenon, the lack of maintenance this year means that the leaves remain in the water and color it. “I have not often seen him so intense,” specifies the speaker from the Flemish newspaper.
Proof of this is that Monday’s rain made the dead leaves disappear, leaving only a pale pink reflection in the water of the pond.
