The purchase of houses ends two years of decline and shoots up to 2007 levels

At 2007 levels. The sale of homes soared 34.6% in 2021 compared to the previous year, to a total of 565,523 operations, the highest number of transactions since 2007, as reported on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and includes Europa Press.

With this annual upturn, Home sales end two years of decline after the 17% collapse it suffered in 2020 due to the pandemic and the 0.7% drop in 2019. Between 2014 and 2018, home sales registered annual increases: 2% in 2014, 11.5% in 2015, 14% in 2016, 15.4% in 2017 and 10% in 2018.

The increase in the sale of homes in 2021 was due to the increase in both operations on second-hand flats, which rose by 33.8% in the year, as well as to the increase in the sale of new homes by 37.7%.
