The film “Crew” by Alexander Mitta became one of the main films of the Soviet era. Viewers are still watching the exciting story of the brave pilots, but not everyone knows how the creators intended the ending of the film.
As it turned out, Mitta and the scriptwriters did not intend to have a happy ending in the film. According to their plan, Timchenko ends up in the hospital and learns that his colleagues urgently need to ferry the plane. A brave pilot escapes from the hospital in only his pajamas and ends up at the airport, where he is met by old colleagues and loyal friends. Together they board, and in the next scene Timchenko’s daughter Natalya learns that her father has died.
But the censors decided not to let such a gloomy ending pass. They forced the director to change the script, make it more optimistic, and then allowed the film to be released.
