The real story from the novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov: who is Florence Sally Horner and who abducted her | e1.ru

On June 14, 1948, Frank LaSalle and Sally Horner checked into a hotel on the coast near the beach, introducing themselves as father and daughter. The girl called her mother and wrote letters. So six weeks passed, and at the end of July, in her last letter, Sally announced that she was moving with the same family to Baltimore. Of course, Ella was worried. The daughter’s letter ended in a completely strange way: “I don’t want to write anything else.”

Ella Horner finally sounded the alarm and went to the police. The patrol went to the address that was indicated on the envelope. The owners led the police into the room where the girl lived, similar in description to Sally. Things were scattered in the room, it was clear that the dwelling was left in a hurry, and on the table lay a photo, clearly taken during the “vacation”.
