Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been repeatedly attacked head-on. Ukraine recently launched a counter-offensive to regain a large area of the lost land in Kharkiv Oblast in northeastern Ukraine. As Ukraine recaptured large swathes of the Kharkiv region, news of Russian troops fleeing has also spread. Ukrainian intelligence recently intercepted a call from a Russian soldier to his family. He told his father: “Dad, everything is bad, we must be losing… There is nowhere to run.”
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine released on the 12th the content of the phone call from a Russian soldier believed to be fighting on the front line in Kharkiv to his father, in which the father in his hometown can be heard asking his son about the situation on the front line. A Russian soldier said on the phone in despair that the Russian army was retreating. He said frankly: “Everything is bad here. Do you know how many people are killed and wounded? We have nowhere to run…”.
Not only is the Russian soldier disappointed with the prospects of the Russian army, but Igor Girkin, a Russian ultranationalist and commander of the pro-Russian separatist forces in Ukraine, admitted through the communication software Telegram recently: “The Ukrainian war will continue until Russia is completely defeated. We have already lost, and the rest is only a matter of time.” The British Ministry of Defense also released intelligence on the 15th that Russian troops have withdrawn from the area west of the Oskil River.
The Ukrainian army continued to carry out a rapid counter-offensive in the Kharkiv region, and the Russian army was caught by surprise. It was related to the failure of the Russian intelligence service, the high-level was deceived, and the military staff and strategic agencies were unpredictable and predictable events. According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the speed of Ukraine’s advance shocked the Russian troops and fled their positions, even leaving a large amount of weapons and ammunition behind. However, Russian state media claimed that the current setback was a “reorganization of forces”.
