The British “Guardian” quoted data from the global flight tracking service website “Flightradar 24” today (19) as saying that a flight from Moscow was forced to detour more than 15,000 kilometers because of the European Union’s ban on Russia. The flight went first to Spain and then to Greece to pick up the expelled Russian diplomats, the report said.
Flightradar24 said that while Spain and Greece made an exception to let the plane into their airspace this time, other countries maintained their no-fly orders against Russia. As a result, the flight’s total length of 15,163 kilometers is second only to the current world’s longest route, the flight from Singapore to New York.
European Commission President Van der Leyen issued a statement on February 27 that the European Union decided to close the airspace of Russia as a whole. Spanish Foreign Minister Alvarez said on April 5 that it had decided to expel 25 Russian diplomats, and the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued an announcement on the 6th that 12 Russian diplomats in Greece had been included in the “undesirable list” .
