The states of Mexico that eliminated the mandatory use of face masks

States where the use of face masks is no longer mandatory

New Lion

New Lion became the first entity of Mexico to end the mandatory use of face masks both in open and closed spaces. This measure was announced by the Ministry of Health, at the direction of Governor Samuel García, on April 24.

Jalisco

By May 9, the government of Jalisco decreed that the use of face masks is optional in open spacesexcept in schools, nurseries, hospitals and public transport, among others.

Governor Enrique Alfaro indicated that this measure was taken because “the numbers tell us that we are fine, that we have made progress and that the pandemic has been controlled in our state.”

Yucatan

Last May 12, in Yucatan the mandatory use of face masks in open spaces was eliminated. The use of face masks is maintained for closed spaces and public transport and as a recommendation for people who suffer from some comorbidity.

Colima

The Congress of Colima approved on May 17 the elimination of the mandatory use of face masks in the public spaces of the entity. This in response to the recommendation issued by the State Security Committee in Public health.

Campeche

The Governor of Campeche, Layda Sansoreswho has repeatedly expressed that he considers the use of face masks unnecessary, suggested that the use of face masks is optional, even in government offices.

Morelos

The entity’s Secretary of Health, Marco Antonio Cantú Cuevas, reported that they should only behave in closed spaces, public transport, hospitals, as well as people from vulnerable groups or who do not have the complete vaccination schedule.
