The office can be a holy land of love or a purgatory of Shura fields. A survey by an online search platform pointed out that “office infidelity” may be more common than most people think, with 17% of office workers admitting to developing an affair with a colleague at a “Christmas party.”

The New York Times quoted “infidelity” survey data from the “human flesh search” platform Spokeo in October 2022 and pointed out that 35% of 1,158 American respondents admitted that they almost gave in to temptation and cheated on their partners at the company’s Christmas party. 17% admitted to having an affair at a Christmas party and 22% said they enjoyed the attention they received when they flirted with someone other than their partner.

The data also pointed out that 20% of the respondents lacked trust in their partners; 11% admitted that extramarital affairs make people feel taboo-like impulses. Matt Lundquist, a counselor at the Tribeca Treatment Center in New York, was not surprised by the survey results and suspected that the temptation at the Christmas party had been brewing for some time because “many people spend more time in the office than with their spouses.” As time goes on, various feelings of intimacy and tension will occur in the workplace.”

Lesley Koeppel, a psychotherapist in Manhattan, also said that the heightened thrill, excitement and risk temptation of being caught in the workplace have prompted some people to cheat in order to enjoy the risks, adding that both parties are likely to have been attracted to each other for a long time. The “holiday feeling” and alcohol at the party induced self-indulgence, and then more actively developed relationships.
