“The second coming of high-end wireless earphones that allow you to feel the original sound source,

“It teaches us what is natural and comfortable without using techniques.”

Sennheiser was founded in 1945 and is still one of the leading brands in the global audio market. The MTW series is Sennheiser’s signature product line, with many people eagerly waiting for this lineup. On March 1st, the MTW4, Momentum True Wireless 4, which many people have been waiting for, was finally released. As an audio device enthusiast, I couldn’t help but be excited about the second coming of the ultimate earphone, which can be seen as the return of the king.

This MTW4 supports aptx™Adaptive and LC3 codec, Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon sound platform comparable to wired earphones, and uses a 7mm dynamic driver equipped with a TrueResponse transducer. Natural and frustrating ANC is applied to provide an overwhelming sound. We pride ourselves on quality.

As soon as I received the product, I used the MTW4 like crazy for about a week without stopping. Even now, I think it is a product with no shortcomings, and I am still very impressed with the sound quality that reproduces the original sound to the fullest. Let’s take a closer look at Sennheiser’s newly released signature wireless earphone, MTW4, below.

▶Components, product appearance and specifications

The complete package includes a charging case, earphone unit, additional ear tips and silicone ear fins, USB-C to A type charging cable, manual, and quick guide.

There are three product colors: black copper, black graphite, and silver white. The color you see now is silver white. The exterior of the charging case is made of a gray fabric material, which is soft, and the inner frame is made of a sturdy and hard white plastic material. .

A little different from typical earphones, the charging port and LED indicator light to indicate charging status are both located on the front, and the bottom supports wireless charging.

When you open the case lid, you can finally see the earphone unit. As if you found the white-silver colored body, the outside of the earphone is finished with silver-colored metal, the Sennheiser logo is engraved in the center, and the inside is made of the same plastic. .

Inside the case, the Sennheiser logo is engraved in the center, the unit rises well to make it easy to remove from the case, and the center is long enough to fit a finger. It also supports a relatively high level of dust and water resistance with an IP54 rating.

As mentioned earlier, the unit is equipped with a 7mm dynamic driver equipped with a TrueResponse transducer, allowing you to feel strong bass without digital processing, allowing you to feel a very natural bass in an actual listening environment.

In addition, the supported codecs include AAC, SBC, LC3, aptX™, aptX™Adaptive/Lossless, and Auracast™Broadcast Audio. It is equipped with the latest Bluetooth 5.4 version and LE can transmit 50% more efficiently than the existing SBC. It also supports Aura Cast, which delivers audio to multiple receivers simultaneously.

The unit’s frequency range is 5Hz to 21kHz, SPL is 107dB (1kHz/1mW), and distortion rate is (1kHz, 94dB SPL):<0.08% (1kHz/94dB).

The in-ear type nozzle does not have many exposed parts and has an ergonomic design so it enters the ear canal with an appropriate depth.

The weight of the earphone unit alone is about 11g, or about 77g including the rechargeable case, so it has an overall sturdy and heavy feel, but considering the actual wearing feeling, the center of gravity is well distributed, so it does not feel too burdensome.

▶Wear & Touch

Next is the fit. The silicone ear fins support the earphones inside the ear canal, and the in-ear type nozzle provides less stimulation inside the ear canal, so I was able to feel comfortable wearing them overall.

Personally, I consider touch sensitivity to be important in high-end earphones, but there are times when I feel frustrated because there are products that have awkward touch or slow response, but the default setting for MTW4 is to turn on/off No Can by clicking the left unit 3 times in succession, so press and hold this button. I thought about changing it, but the touch response speed and sensitivity were so good that I didn’t think about changing it.

You may feel that the sensitivity is a little high, but if you become aware of unconsciously touching the touch area, you can quickly adapt to this.

▶Dedicated app Sennheiser ‘Smart Control’

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 also supports the dedicated app ‘Smart Control’. This app has a simple and intuitive UI and supports a variety of functions, including basic EQ settings, noise canceling, fit testing, touch control settings, and firmware updates.

In particular, you need to change the audio resolution to use the aptX™Adaptive codec, so if you are using an audio transmitter, you must install it and adjust the resolution. At this time, if you look at the codec, information about the codec currently in use is displayed, which can be very helpful in checking the sound source.

Lastly, in addition to technical and acoustic functions, we were able to confirm that it also provides convenient functions such as battery ECO mode, automatic call answering, and smart pause.

▶Sound quality test

It was recorded in the form of indirect recording rather than measuring sound quality, and there was a tendency for noise or pitch to jump out depending on the song, but I think you should listen to it with some consideration. In order to convey the overall sound resonance, sense of space, stereo, etc. from the actual unit, the recording was used as is. In the actual listening environment, the overall sound includes a natural bass that is not over-tuned, an appropriately emphasized low-mid range, and a high-pitched range that is not missed. I could feel the rich enjoyment of sound.

In particular, when listening through the BTD 600 audio transmitter, I felt that it was definitely close to the original sound, and I couldn’t help but naturally close my eyes to the intuitive audio.

Noise canceling is equipped with hybrid adaptive ANC, which is natural, not artificial, and has excellent blocking of surrounding noise. It also provides an anti-wind function, which reduces wind friction noise even in windy environments, allowing it to be used in a variety of environments.

▶Microphone test

Each unit is equipped with a total of 6 microphones, 3 of which are capable of accurately picking up voices even in noisy environments. The voice pickup was so good that there were no problems communicating with the other person on the phone.

▶Battery & Charging

The battery is equipped with a built-in lithium battery with a capacity of 820 mAh for the case and 75 mAh (R) and 72 mAh (L) for the units, respectively. You can charge it using the USB-C type port on the charging case, but you can charge it by placing it on a wireless charging pad. You can also charge wirelessly without having to plug it in. It takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge, and you can play music for about 1 hour with about 8 minutes of charging.

The running time of the unit alone is up to 7.5 hours with ANC off, up to 7 hours with ANC on, and up to about 30 hours with the charging case.

“In conclusion”

▶Advantages

1. Natural and comfortable noise cancellation

2. aptX™ lossless & LC3 codec support

3. Excellent mid-low range sound quality

4. Clear call quality with 6 microphones

5. Support wireless charging

6. Battery that can be used for up to 30 hours

7. Dedicated app support

▶Disappointing points

1. The specifications and functions have only a few advantages, and I did not notice any major disadvantages while using it.

This is an overall review. So far, we have looked at the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4. We were able to give it a hexagonal score overall, including its luxurious exterior design and color, easy-to-use dedicated app, intuitive and technical sound quality and natural hybrid adaptive ANC, and clear and comfortable call quality. It was an earphone.

It’s been a long time since a new product in the existing lineup was released, but it seems to have been released with incredible quality, as if to live up to the expectations and wait of fans. Pre-orders are currently being accepted only until today, the 29th, with just a few hours left, and when pre-ordering, Sennheiser BTD- Since we are additionally giving away 600 and a coffee coupon or leather case (for the first 100 people), I think it is a more cost-effective combination for those who do not have an audio transmitter that supports atpx™Adaptive.

Lastly, I will end the review by sharing a brief review of MTW4 and unboxing shorts.
