The product has received certification from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, which ensures that radio and wireless communication equipment meets certain technical standards. Notably, the PlayStation 5 consoles use the CFI-1XXX model numbering scheme, while the updated model released in 2021 uses the CFI-11XX scheme.

Last May, it was reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment would begin production of the PlayStation 5 with a different design in 2022. The console will need to use a 6nm processor from AMD. Taiwanese business resource DigiTimes declaredthat suppliers, including semiconductor factory TSMC, plan to begin production of the updated PlayStation 5 between the second and third quarters of this year.

Last year’s redesigned PlayStation 5 was purely component-focused and did not undergo any significant external changes. This may happen again with the new CFI-1200.
