The US State Department has dismissed China’s claim that it is faithfully implementing sanctions against North Korea. He also stressed the need for China to exercise influence over North Korea, citing North Korea’s unstable behavior. Reporter Ham Ji-ha reports.

“The United States continues to urge the Chinese government to fully and fully implement its obligations under Security Council resolutions unanimously adopted by members of the UN Security Council,” a State Department spokesperson said on the 5th.

[국무부 대변인] “The United States continues to urge the PRC to fully and completely fulfill their obligations under the UN Security Council resolutions that UN Security Council members unanimously adopted. Beijing can do more to combat the DPRK’s sanctions evasion efforts in PRC coastal waters, repatriate North Korean laborers earning income in PRC territory, and shut down procurement networks. We urge Beijing to use its influence to encourage the DPRK to refrain from destabilizing behavior and return to the negotiating table.”

A State Department spokesperson made the remarks in response to VOA’s email request for comment on a recent statement by the Chinese government that it was meeting its obligations with respect to sanctions on North Korea.

“China can do more to respond to North Korean sanctions evasion attempts on China’s coast, to repatriate North Korean workers profiting from Chinese territory, and to shut down[North Korea’s]procurement networks,” he said.

“We urge the Chinese government to exercise its influence to encourage North Korea to refrain from destabilizing behavior and return to the negotiating table,” he added.

Previously, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol told reporters on the 2nd when asked about China’s opposition to the US-Korea “Washington Declaration”, “If you want to object and criticize us, you have to reduce (North Korea’s) nuclear threat, or at least the UN Security Council sanctions and international law We have to protect it,” he criticized China.

In particular, he pointed out that South Korea “has no choice” in a situation where China does not participate in UN Security Council sanctions at all.

In response to President Yun’s remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Maoning refuted on the 4th, saying, “China is faithfully fulfilling its international obligations.”

“The Security Council’s resolutions related to North Korea do not only contain provisions for sanctions, but also include reversible provisions for dialogue support, humanitarian aid, and sanctions relief,” he said. .
