A State Department spokesperson made the remarks in response to VOA’s email request for comment on a recent statement by the Chinese government that it was meeting its obligations with respect to sanctions on North Korea.
“China can do more to respond to North Korean sanctions evasion attempts on China’s coast, to repatriate North Korean workers profiting from Chinese territory, and to shut down[North Korea’s]procurement networks,” he said.
“We urge the Chinese government to exercise its influence to encourage North Korea to refrain from destabilizing behavior and return to the negotiating table,” he added.
Previously, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol told reporters on the 2nd when asked about China’s opposition to the US-Korea “Washington Declaration”, “If you want to object and criticize us, you have to reduce (North Korea’s) nuclear threat, or at least the UN Security Council sanctions and international law We have to protect it,” he criticized China.
