It is with her full name, Chiara Santamaria, that this 18-year-old singer chose to appear on the stage of The Voice this Saturday March 30 on TF1. The young woman had the distinction of being the very last to perform in front of the chairs of Mika, Zazie, Vianney and Bigflo & Oli among the 105 talents selected for this season 13. And this even though their teams were already complete ! But at the end of the suspense, the chair of the Toulouse brothers turned, making Chiara Santamaria, originally from Belgium, their 15th talent. A promising start for the young woman, already a finalist on The Voice Kids Belgium in 2020.

Télé-Loisirs: You were the very last to go through the blind auditions. Did you have any extra pressure?
Chiara Santamaria: I learned it the same day, through a small mistake. I wasn’t supposed to learn it this early in the day, because we’re in the studio first thing in the morning and I came by around 8:30 p.m. But basically, I had to go to the penultimate day of recording. I was ready but I got gastro and was unable to repeat. So production gave me another slot. And during the traditional on-site interview, the journalist, unintentionally, told me that I was coming last. I was a bit in “oula!” mode. It’s not easy because we ask ourselves a lot of questions, like “Am I still as lucky as the others?”

Just before singing, were you aware that all the coaches’ teams were complete?
While talking with someone from production, I understood that there was no more space left and that, to be taken on, there really had to be a little something extra. It was an additional challenge.
Why did you choose a song by Yseult, Bad Boy?
Yseult inspires me a lot through her texts and her interpretations. For the little anecdote, it was with this song that I got the spark for interpretation during an internship in Paris last year. I felt emotions that I had never experienced before.

Yes ! I had so many emotions already before in the day that I was just there delivering something and I wasn’t even thinking about the coaches.

Would you have spontaneously chosen this duo if several chairs had turned around?
I had thought of them directly. I don’t rap, but I’ve already worked with people who are more in their world. And I have this thing with my voice that fits a little more with rap. For me, it is therefore an interesting fusion, even for learning. Otherwise, I had also thought of Vianney, especially for the French song. But I’m not only in this universe so, for me, Bigflo & Oli was the best choice.
Your boyfriend was there backstage watching your audition. Is he also a musician?
Quite ! Clément plays the piano and the trombone, but he is above all a beatmaker at heart. It’s also thanks to him that I was chosen for The Voice because he accompanied me on the piano on the video thanks to which the production spotted me on social networks. It was on Thousands of I love you, by Slimane, that the singer himself had reposted in an Instagram story.
