Today, Thursday, the national youth volleyball team concludes its participation in the first edition of the West Asian Championship, in which ten teams participate. It will be held in Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Hall in the Saudi city of Qatif, with its Qatari counterpart at ten in the morning, to determine the ninth and tenth places.
The team will be represented in the meeting by the players: Abdul Rahman Al-Khasawneh, Ayham Khanfar, Fahd Noman, Wafa Abu Touq, Omar Nasser, Ibrahim Al-Ahta, Amer Adel, Muhammad Shbeilat, Abdul-Azim Sami, Loay Najeh, Saleh Al-Tahrawi and Wissam Al-Khatib.
The national team had finished fifth in the first group, after four losses it had suffered in a row, which were in front of: UAE 1-3, Iraq 0-3, Lebanon 0-3, and Bahrain 0-3. The Qatari team came fifth in the second group by losing to: Kuwait 1-3, Syria 2-3, Palestine 2-3, Saudi Arabia 1-3.
The matches of the fifth and final round of the group stage ended the night before last with a victory: Bahrain defeated Jordan 3-0, Palestine defeated Kuwait 3-2, Saudi Arabia defeated Qatar 3-1, and Iraq defeated Lebanon 3-1, and with the end of the group stage, the teams’ arrangement came according to following:
Group A: First Bahrain with (10) points, second Iraq (9) points, third Lebanon (6) points, fourth UAE (5) points, fifth Jordan without points.
Group Two: The first is Saudi Arabia with (12) points, the second is Palestine with (6) points, a difference in the number of times of victory over Kuwait, which came third with (6) points, the fourth is Syria (4) points, and the fifth is Qatar with two points.
Today, he will meet in the quarter-finals of the tournament, which is held in the knockout method: Bahrain with Syria, Iraq with Kuwait, Lebanon with Palestine, the Emirates with Saudi Arabia. On the results of the team’s participation in the tournament, His Highness Deputy President of the Federation, Mr. Jihad Qteishat, said, “The Federation will discuss participation in its next session, to take decisions that correct the course, in order to complete the team’s preparation programs, and the participation will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation to find out the negatives and find appropriate solutions, and we will not hold the players responsible. The federation has provided all the requirements, provided support and care, and will continue this approach with all national teams.”
