“No one is under a deadline, no one gets blank checks,” said Thanasis Theocharopoulos, a member of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA, speaking to ERTNEWS, among others, after the episodic conference of the party.
Mr. Theocharopoulos began with a reference to the issue of farmers saying that: “The cost of production they are experiencing is unbearable. Just as the precision outside cannot stand, so the farmers cannot produce this price”, he said among other things and added that: “the agricultural policy is the only one so comprehensive at the European level”.
Speaking about SYRIZA, he emphasized, among other things, that the institutions will function, as will the statute, which must be respected. “I think we came out of a conference where we decided some things. Another thing is if we agreed or disagreed in the discussion. We have made some collective decisions. What are these, That we move forward from now on. That the goal is to have the strongest result in the European elections. To stop making mistakes which may have been made in the previous period of time so that we can have the best possible result in the European elections”, he said.
He added that “if we do not do well in the European elections – I want to believe that we will do well – we will all have a problem, SYRIZA will have a problem”.
Mr. Theocharopoulos said that the Progressive Alliance wants to express the modern Left and the whole world that extends from the center to the Left.
Regarding the intervention of Alexis Tsipras shortly before the Congress, Mr. Theocharopoulos stated that, “he is the former prime minister of the country and for 15 years the president of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, he has the right and the obligation to intervene in any way. In whatever way he thinks each time”.
Finally, Thanasis Theocharopoulos emphasized, among other things, that “the body of the Congress decided with a large majority that we will not go to elections, we respect the decisions” and that “no one is under commission and no one has blank checks”.
