The former minister and MP of the South Sector of the ND is in the North American country as an official guest of expatriate organizations, as a representative of the Parliament, in view of the national anniversary of March 25.
The first stop of Takis Theodorikakos’ tour was Montreal, where he visited the Greek school, took a photo with the children learning our language, history, dances and traditions and then spoke to the city’s Laconian Brotherhood, honoring the 17th anniversary March for the start of the ’21 Revolution in Mani.
In his speech, he called for participation in the European elections, pointing out that postal voting is a great opportunity for expatriates to participate in the decisions for Greece and Europe. Mr. Theodorikakos went to church at the Holy Church of the Holy Cross in Laval, Montreal, where he spoke about the unity of the Greeks and the role of the diaspora.
The next stop on the tour was Ottawa. While visiting the Senate, he met with our compatriot Senator Leonidas Housakos, former President of the Senate and with the Member of Parliament and co-chair of the Canada-Greece friendship committee Mrs. Emmanuela Lampropoulou. At the gathering of the Greek Community of Ottawa – with Laconian, Samian and Evian associations – Mr. Theodorikakos discussed with them the issues of concern and focused on the need for their participation in the European elections by postal vote. This was followed by a meeting with the Most Reverend Archbishop Kanada Sotirios.
Mr. Theodorikakos thanked him warmly for his hospitality in the Holy Archdiocese and the excellent discussion they had and praised the social and educational work of the Church.
In Toronto, where the former minister is now, he participated in an event of the Greek Community of the city, met with the council of the Pan-Macedonian Federation and participated in the raising of the Greek flag, as part of the events to celebrate the anniversary of the Revolution of 1821.
On the day of the National Anniversary, Mr. Theodorikakos will attend the celebratory events of the Greek community in Toronto: at 10:00 at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin and at 18:00 he will attend the speech addressed to the expatriate Greeks by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
