It is believed that the coalition configuration of political parties ahead of the 2024 regional head elections (pilkada) may change. Even though there is talk that the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) will create a permanent coalition.
Executive Director of Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO) Dedi Kurnia Syah said there was no guarantee that the coalition for the 2024 presidential election (pilpres) would last until the Pilkada. Dedi explained a number of factors that political parties take into consideration.
“First, the condition of the parties in the regions means that changes are very likely to occur in the regions,” said Dedi when contacted, Sunday (17/3).
He explained that even though during the presidential election the political parties were in different coalitions, they could unite in the regions. He gave the example of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) which gave the impression that they could not be united, but under certain conditions there were Pilkada candidates who were supported by PDIP together with PKS.
“This is a common occurrence,” he added.
Second, continued Dedi, there is no Indonesian political system that requires the same national and regional coalitions. In fact, he said, the coalition was only a condition for nomination, not a condition for participating in the contest.

“This situation allows each political party in the region to have a special relationship,” explained Dedi.
Finally, he explained that political parties would later look at the character of the candidates they would nominate in the regional elections. Figure or character is considered one of the factors that political parties consider when providing support.
“Characters usually have the attraction to rally political parties,” he said.
The 2024 regional elections will be held in November 2024. The announcement of the 2024 election results will be announced on March 20 2024. Currently, the general election recapitulation is still being carried out by the General Election Commission (KPU). (Z-3)
