What does a day without us mean?
Women, girls and young people are invited to not participating in daily activities, such as work, school, as well as not buying anythingthis as a way to protest against femicides and violence against women.
To the call for the feminist strike have joined in the last two years, universities, institutions, including the Business Coordinating Council in support of women who decide to participate in the national strike on March 9.
Origin of A Day Without Us
In 2020, the original proposal came out of a Veracruz feminist collective called The Witches of the Sea that, through a publication on their Twitter, they called for a national women’s strike on March 9 and that went viral on social networks and chats.

However some, they have clarified that it is not a holidayas in the case of the Anahuac University, which suspended classes for March 9, but after criticism, backed down and assured that the activities would be normal, but women who decide not to attend that day would be supported.
Why did the national strike of 9M arise?
Murdered women don’t come to work.

Some murdered women did not even reach a coffin. They are dumped in a canal, in a ravine or on the side of a road.
The way to support the movement lies in the cessation of activities because the murdered women are NO LONGER HERE and probably tomorrow some more of us will not be either.
It is not a day off, it is a day of struggle. Beyond thinking that “they are giving us permission” think that we will be bringing the memory to those who are NOT.

It is not the first time that a feminist strike has been called
In Mexico, in 2020 and 2021 the national strike was carried out “A Day Without Women” or also known as “A Day Without Us”.
The idea of a feminist strike is neither new nor Mexicanthe most notorious example may be the call for March 8, 2018 in Spain that captured the attention of the world.
A stoppage was made 24 hours and mass demonstrations in 120 citieswhere the organizers spoke of up to a million attendees in Madrid and 600 thousand in Barcelona.
In 2016 also hubo feminist strikes in Argentina and Polandalthough not on March 8, but derived from other claims.
