The former has been viralized on social media in the last few days.
Specifically, 10 years ago Gómez was left out due to a comment he made on the air on the news Last look, Del Rio was driving.
It all happened after an interview they conducted with a man named John Gonzalez, organizer of a controversial tribute to Pinochet that year. In addition, the guest was president of a corporation called “September 11.”
After that, the sports journalist explained: “We are going to wait for the smell of sulfur to dissipate a bit here in the studio.” Subsequently, the channel made the aforementioned decision.
Boric showed his support for Víctor Gómez against Matías del Río
At that time a young student leader named Gabriel Boric was interviewed on the same television program. Just after the conversation ended, the now President of the Republic asked for a few seconds to express his position.
That was accepted in a good way by the communicator, who proceeded to listen to him.
“Matías, I can’t help but tell you about it, but it seems important to me being in this space show solidarity with the case of journalist Víctor Gómez, that the same College of Journalists has just pointed out that it is an unacceptable censorship”, he indicated.
“This has nothing to do with you (addressing Del Río) but it seems to me that being on this channel one cannot fail to mention it, so all our solidarity with him, and I hope that freedom of expression is categorically and absolutely respected in Chile,” he added.
About the end, Matías del Río commented: “What I can tell you is that you have to know the whole subject, I am not going to express myself because this is not the space. You have to know the entire subject to give an opinion.”
It should be noted that the two had another controversial interview last year, after Boric triumphed in the Presidential Primary over Daniel Jadue.
