Alcoholic beverage both appreciated and decried, beer (when consumed in moderation of course) would not be as bad for your health as you might think. However, a recent study carried out by researchers from the University of Lisbon, in Portugal and relayed by Neonrefers to unsuspected benefits of beer on our body.

In order to carry out their research, the scientists followed a panel of 22 men, who had to drink a 33cl “lager” beer (bottom-fermented blonde), with or without alcohol, every day for a month.

At the end of this experiment, it appeared that this regular consumption of beer had positive effects on the microbiota intestinal : “Beer increased gut microbiota diversity, which has been associated with positive health outcomes, and tended to increase fecal alkaline phosphatase activity”relate the experts in their report.

But beware, the alcohol has nothing to do with it, since they are in fact the yeasts present in beer, also called polyphenols to whom we owe these surprising results. And for good reason, these organic molecules that are also found in vegetables actually participate in the good balance of micro-organisms in the intestine. This makes you want to allow yourself a pint a little more often, but always in moderation!
