Three thousand housing units will be built in the near future – Jornal OPaís

The Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Santos, recently said that the Executive has in mind the construction of three thousand social housing units in the near future, to fill the housing deficit that still exists in the country

The Advisory Board of this ministry recalled that in the period from 2018 to 2022, 28 urbanizations and social housing projects were completed, which made it possible to make 350 thousand housing units available, aiming to contribute to reducing the current housing deficit in the country, which needs around 2.2 million new homes to satisfy the demand of the Angolan real estate market.

The Executive approved the directed self-construction program, with a view to making available subdivided land, with legal security, whose infrastructure will be phased, according to Carlos Santos, and, in the near future, three thousand social housing units will also be built.

The minister, cited by Angop, also recalled that, in recent years, two million homes were made available to citizens, but by 2050 there will be a need for four million homes to cover the deficit, taking into account the current population growth rate. Furthermore, Carlos Santos said that the construction of various infrastructures linked to Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing allowed the creation of more than 100 thousand jobs, in the period from 2018 to 2022.

The respective jobs created result from various actions in the sector, with emphasis on the construction and rehabilitation of roads and houses. To conclude, the minister did not fail to talk about the program on degraded buildings, which is dependent on the availability of financing to begin implementing the strategic intervention plan for buildings, with emphasis on Lot 1 of Prenda, Avenida Comandante Valódia and the building known as FAP, located in the province of Huambo.

As for road infrastructure, the portfolio holder said that 11,400 kilometers were paved on the main sections of national roads, which represents 41.3% in relation to the total length of the national road network. He also highlighted that around four thousand meters of concrete bridges were built and 1,200 meters of metal bridges were installed.

Carlos dos Santos also recalled that, in the province of Luanda, the duplication of National Road No. 100, towards Cabolombo/Barra do Kwanza, the rehabilitation of Road 230, in the Catete/Maria Teresa section, the completion of the da Boa-Vista and the continuity of road access work on Avenida Fidel de Castro. He highlighted the start of construction of the Corimba roadside, having announced that, in the second quarter of this year, work will begin on the Camama / Viana section.
