The body of a young man was found at noon on Saturday (06.04.2024) by the crew members of a private boat, which was sailing on the northern shores of Mount Athos, in Strymonikos gulf.
At the sight of the body, the Coast Guard was notified and officers from both the Coast Guard of Mount Athos and the Coast Guard of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi rushed in patrol boats.
The body, unidentified, was found and collected in the sea area of Akrotiri Agios Andreas at the northern end of the peninsula. As it was found, it belonged to a young man and the body was in advanced decay.
The body was taken by the officers of the coast guard to the port of Ierissos and from there to Thessaloniki, where a necropsy will be carried out, in order to establish the cause of the young man’s death, while his identity will also be sought.
The preliminary investigation is carried out by the Mount Athos Port Authority.
