Tiga Hujan Meteor dan Bulan Purnama Hiasi November 2026

Skywatchers across Indonesia can observe three meteor showers and a full moon throughout November 2026 without using a telescope, afu.id reported. Information regarding the active windows and estimated peaks of these celestial events is recorded in astronomical calendars published by international institutions, including the International Meteor Organization (IMO), NASA, and the American Meteor Society (AMS), alongside Time and Date.

Southern Taurids Open the Month with Fireballs

The astronomical calendar kicks off with the Southern Taurid meteor shower, which reaches its peak on the nights of 4–5 November 2026. Beritasatu.com noted that the active window runs from 20 September through 20 November 2026. Originating from comet 2P/Encke debris, this stream is famous for occasionally generating brilliant fireballs that outshine standard meteors. The American Meteor Society estimates a zenithal hourly rate of roughly five meteors under ideal conditions. Also dubbed the Halloween Fireballs by IDN Times, this phenomenon occurs as Earth passes through rocky debris, with meteors appearing to radiate from the constellation Taurus. IDN Times added that during October and November, the constellation Taurus sits in the eastern sky before slowly shifting toward the north.

Observers in Indonesia should seek out dark sites away from urban light pollution. IDN Times added that these particles enter the atmosphere at a relatively slow velocity of 27 kilometers per second. This slower entry speed makes individual streaks easier to track across the eastern sky as the constellation Taurus moves overhead. Beritasatu.com noted that observers should also give their eyes time to adjust to the dark to increase their chances of spotting dimmer meteors.

Northern Taurids Follow in Mid-November

Following closely behind its southern counterpart, the Northern Taurid meteor shower reaches its peak on the nights of 11–12 November 2026. Harianjogja reported that this shower maintains a broader active period stretching from 20 October to 10 December 2026. Both Taurid streams share common origins within the Encke complex. IDN Times noted that the Northern Taurid phenomenon unfolds around midnight.

The American Meteor Society also places the expected rate for the Northern Taurids at about five meteors per hour during optimal viewing windows. Observers this year benefit from a favorable lunar phase during the peak.

Leonid Meteors Bring High-Speed Streaks

The Leonid meteor shower reaches its peak on the nights of 16–17 November 2026, with IDN Times noting the peak spans 17–18 November while starting its active period on 6 November and ending on 30 November 2026. Afu.id reported that debris from comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle feeds this stream. Under ideal skies, the Leonids can produce about 15 meteors per hour.

IDN Times noted that these particles plunge into Earth’s atmosphere at a blistering 70 kilometers per second. From Jakarta, the shower becomes visible shortly after midnight around 00:20 WIB and continues until dawn breaks at 05:00 WIB. Observers may need to stay up late or wake early to catch them, as moonlight can obscure dimmer meteors once the moon climbs higher.

In addition to the meteor streams, IDN Times reported a planetary conjunction occurring on 16 November between 00:11 and 04:54 WIB in the northeastern sky, grouping the Moon, Jupiter, and Mars together for unaided viewing.

Beaver Full Moon Closes the Month

Unlike meteor showers that require dark skies and unhindered horizons, the full moon is easily visible from nearly any urban or rural location. Harianjogja reminded observers that thick cloud cover remains the primary obstacle for both meteor hunting and lunar viewing.

Astronomers recommend checking local weather forecasts and traveling far from city lights to maximize meteor counts. Naked-eye viewing remains superior to telescopes for meteor showers because it offers a wide field of view across the entire night sky.
