The current temperatures make us bring out big sweaters, hats, mittens outside and at home, blankets. Pay attention to your energy consumption.

For some time now, low temperatures have pushed us to cover up more and more and use a little more energy. To avoid skyrocketing bills, it is important to make a few adjustments: invest in insulating curtains, lower the thermostat by one degree, spend less time in the shower… And adjust the hot water tank better.

How to adjust your hot water tank to consume less?

To shower, you obviously need the water to heat up in the tank. Located near your boiler, it is one of the devices that consumes the most. According to ADEME, it represents around 11% of French consumption (which should not be very different here).

To reduce consumption, many people turn it off when they go on vacation. However, it is possible to save money all year round by reducing the temperature at which it is set. Usually programmed at 55-60 degrees, it should be set to 50-55 degrees. This will not change anything for you since the water will be hot enough for your showers, washing dishes, etc.

You can normally make the change yourself as the thermostat is visible on most tanks. If not, you must remove the safety cover to access it.
